Aerodrome circuit
The Koblenz-Winningen airfield has two airfield circuits, the north and the south circuit. Both circuits are always in operation. With the exception of gliders, all motorized aircraft, including microlights of all types, must keep to these circuits. Entry into the aerodrome circuit is via the northern or southern approach. Flying into the aerodrome circuit must be reported on the aerodrome frequency.
As both aerodrome circuits are in operation, it is quite possible that two aircraft will enter the final approach from different lateral approaches. Pay particular attention to the position reports of other aircraft during this phase and adjust your approach accordingly at an early stage. If it is necessary to abort the approach, do not fly into the opposite lateral approach under any circumstances! Take off according to the aerodrome circuit guidance or leave the aerodrome circuit for a new approach.
Attention: Glider traffic
Glider traffic is to be expected at the airfield, especially at weekends and on public holidays, but also at other times. Gliders use the grass runway north of the asphalt runway for take-off and landing. The glider airfield circuit lies to the north "inside" the motorized airfield circuit. When approaching, watch out for any gliders approaching at the same time. In the area of the right cross-approach to runway 23, the approach paths run very close together. All gliders are required to announce the start of the landing approach at the points marked on the map (the so-called "position") with the following radio message: "D-XY position for landing 23/05 grass". Special care is required of all pilots during mixed operations.
In weather conditions with strong northerly or westerly winds, gliders sometimes stay in the marked slope flight zones. Below an altitude of approx. 1600 ft MSL, they return directly to the glider airfield circuit. Koblenz-RADIO will provide you with separate information if required.
Use of the grass runway is only permitted with the prior approval of flight control. Winch ropes may be laid out!
Attention: Noise protection
We strive to maintain good neighborly relations with the surrounding communities and ask you to support us in this.
As a general rule, flying over villages should be avoided. Please plan your approaches and departures accordingly and use the published information and aids. In particular, long final approaches to runway 23 and straight-in departures from runway 05 are prohibited.

Aerodrome Noise Protection Ordinance
Unlike many small airfields, Koblenz/Winningen airfield is subject to the restrictions of the Airfield Noise Protection Ordinance. Among other things, it sets limits for the sound pressure level of aircraft. It also restricts flight operations with particularly loud aircraft. In addition, aerodrome circuits for training and instruction purposes are prohibited at Koblenz/Winningen airfield on Sundays and public holidays.

The Airfield
History
The Koblenz-Winningen airfield (ICAO designation: EDRK) was established in 1970 after the airfield on the Karthause (Koblenz), which dated back to the Second World War, had to make way for expanding residential development in 1965. This meant that the Aero-Club Koblenz e.V., founded in 1951, also temporarily lost its home, but was one of the first users of the new airfield when it opened. The first flying school, Flugdienst Fehlhaber, began operations in 1970, and cargo flights (later from Cologne-Bonn Airport) were also offered. Even today, the gliders of the Aero-Club Koblenz still use the grass strip to the north of the runway as a take-off and landing area.
At the beginning of the 1980s, a new and, above all, larger runway was built so that larger aircraft could now also take off and land here. The old runway was converted into a taxiway, which can still be recognised today by some shading. A new main building with a tower and restaurant was also built during the same period. The Rhineland-Palatinate police helicopter squadron has also been stationed at Koblenz-Winningen airfield for many years, initially with three Bo 105 helicopters and now with two Eurocopter EC 135 helicopters.
Over the years, the development of the airfield has continued to grow, especially the new construction and expansion of the hangar areas. However, there are geographical limits to the expansion due to the Moselle valley. The construction of a large taxiway gate at threshold 05 (the largest of its kind in the whole of Europe) in 2003 and the associated extension of the runway to a maximum of 1,210 metres exhausted all possibilities for expansion.
Today, the Koblenz-Winningen airfield is one of the busiest in Germany with over 35,000 aircraft movements per year. With a petrol station where all aviation fuels are available in large quantities, the airfield is also ideal as a stopover for longer flights. At weekends in particular, Koblenz-Winningen is a popular destination for pilots from all over Germany and far beyond. Around 90 private and business aircraft are currently stationed at the airfield. In addition to Rhein-Mosel-Flug GmbH (flight school and charter), the company GM Aviation GmbH (aircraft hangar and avionics) has also found its home here. The Aero-Club Koblenz e.V. is the only air sports club based at the site and offers a wide range of flying activities, including gliding.

Powered flight
The Rhein-Mosel-Flug flight school based at the airfield offers flights in a motorised aircraft for up to three passengers. The school also offers other special flying experiences such as taster flights and aerobatics. It is best to call 02606-866 for advice or to make an appointment there directly.
